How to get Tungsten in Astroneer

Get your hands on on Tungsten with our Astroneer guide.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Tungsten is one of the most prevalent resources you will need in Astroneer, which means that you are going to want to know how you can get it.

Tungsten is not found in the wild. It is the refined version of Wolframite, which can be found in the open. However, Wolframite is not going to pop up on your starting planet. You are going to have to go to one of the planet’s moons, Desolo, to find it.

Supplies for your trip

There are three things to keep in mind before you set out for Desolo:

  • Fuel for the journey
  • Storage
  • Tethers

We recommend using a solid fuel thruster, as it only costs one ammonium and one aluminum. Just remember that a thruster is enough for just one trip so be sure to make two of them to get back.

The tethers are to keep you alive while on Desolo, and the storage, while not necessary, will help with bringing back as many things as you want.

Go to Desolo

It’s time to head to Desolo; it doesn’t matter where you land on the planet. Once you have embarked, you will want to look for a cave as that is where you can find Wolframite. Find the nearest cave and head on in. You are looking for a greenish-looking resource; this is Wolframite. Mine as much of it as you need and head back to your ship.

Return home and smelt the wolframite

Once you have returned to your home base, throw the Wolframite into your Smelting Furnace, and it’s done. You have Tungsten.

If you don’t have a Smelting Furnace, unlock it in your catalog for 250 bytes, and get one compound and two resin for the module. Go to the medium printer and set it on whichever platform you want.
