If you are wondering if MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will be releasing on console, we have the answer right here.
It’s been 17 years of waiting, but MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is here. Developers Piranha Games are finally taken the breaks off some lumbering war machines, and a new single-player adventure has arrived. The game will be launching on PC via the Epic Games Store, and you may be wondering if it is releasing on consoles.
At the moment, the answer is no. Currently, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is a PC only game, and will only be available through the Epic Games Store. Piranha Games did express interest in bringing the game to Xbox One during a Q&A session at Mech-Con 2018. Piranha Games founder, Russ Bullock, replied to a fan question on the topic by stating they would “love to see MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries on Xbox One.” Bullock cited the Xbox One’s mouse and keyboard support as the reason.
MechWarrior games typically feature complex and elaborate control schemes for the various functions of the titular Mechs, so it is no surprise that this would not translate very well to a controller. At the time, it simply wasn’t on the cards to launch on a console, and Bullock said that the team was focusing on the PC version in the run-up to launch. Could you see the game come to console in the future? It would certainly seem that Piranha Games would like to do it at some point.
MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is set in 3015, during the last decade of the Third Succession War. Players will once again step into the role of a rookie MechWarrior mercenary. As always, you will be following the money from fight to fight, completing various contracts for the game’s many factions. For now, if you want to try to become the system’s most notorious mercenary, you will need to play on PC, but a console release could be coming at some point in the future.
