On September 2, 2020, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology banned PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite in India along with 116 other Chinese-based apps under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act for engaging in activities that are prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, the defense of India, the security of the state, and public order.
The games were taken down from Google Play Store and Apple App Store, but the in-game servers of both the games were working fine. But recently, PUBG Mobile has announced that they will be shutting down the servers and other services in India on October 30, 2020, and as announced by PUBG Corporation earlier, they will get hold of the publishing rights of PUBG Mobile in India. In addition to this, the servers of PUBG Mobile Lite will also be taken down.
Responding to the ban earlier, PUBG Corporation cut ties with Tencent Games and worked hand in hand with the Indian Government to unban the game in the country. But now, after the servers will be taken down, no player will be able to enter the game and play it.
