How to factory reset PlayStation 5

The factory reset is used on a console for many reasons. Maybe you were messing around with settings and something went horribly wrong. Perhaps you are selling it on, or gifiting it to a friend. For whatever reason, sometimes we have no choice but to reset our console.

There are some important things you should know first. A factory reset will delete everything from the console, and we mean everything. All your downloaded games, save files, recorded footage, screenshots, apps, credit card information, payment information, and personal information. Every change you have made to the settings will also be reset. It restores the console back to a factor default, and it will need to be set up again afterwards. It is not the kind of things you do with out reason.

So, with that said, here is how to do it:

• On the PS5 home screen, select the Settings icon. This is the small gear icon in the top right.
• Select System from the list of options.
• Select Reset Options.
• Select Reset Your Console.
• You will be asked if you want to do it, and reminded that it will delete all information from the PS5.
• Select Reset.

The process will take some time, depending on exactly how much information you have stored on it. You won’t be able to do anything else with the console while this is happening. When it is over, you will have a box fresh PlayStation 5 to do with as you please.
