CD Projekt Red has no special agreement with Sony or Microsoft for Cyberpunk 2077 refunds

The same policies apply to all games on the PS and Microsoft Stores.

The transcript of a recent CD Projekt Red conference call shows that the developer has no special deal with either Sony or Microsoft regarding Cyberpunk 2077 refunds. The game is subject to the same policies on these stores that every game purchased through them is.

The developer’s apologetic statement yesterday mentioned refunds, which seems to have confused the subject for some consumers. In the call, a representative makes it very clear that “our procedure here with Microsoft and Sony is not different than with any other title released on those storefronts. I want to state that clearly, as there seem to be some misconceptions.”

The misconception the representative mentions is that Sony and Microsoft have been accepting part of the financial burden for Cyberpunk 2077 refunds. “In terms of financial participation, when our product is refunded, the share from the store that Microsoft took is refunded, and of course it’s something that is subtracted from the share revenues that would normally be transmitted to CD Projekt Red,” they said.

The call also covered the bugs and other gameplay issues present in Cyberpunk 2077 at launch. The developer acknowledges these issues, stating that they definitely didn’t spend enough time looking at the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game. Their focus was instead mainly on the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S versions.

The representative says that “I can only assume that they trusted we were going to fix things upon release, that obviously did not come together exactly as we had planned.” They then add that a lot of improvements will be seen in the game throughout December, with more coming in January and February, referencing the two planned major updates in the first two months of 2021.
