From scrutiny surrounding its various bugs to an uber amount of players asking for refunds, Cyberpunk 2077 sales have somehow dodged enough bad publicity to hit one of the grandest milestones. According to analytics firm SuperData, the game’s digital launch sales are the biggest ever.
Cyberpunk 2077 has the achievement of selling more than 10.2 million copies from digital marketplaces, but an astounding 80% of those sales were for its PC version. The firm notes that refunds were not accounted for, but claims that “refunds did not substantially affect the game’s aggregate sales.”
These refunds didn’t greatly disturb its total December sales either, as Cyberpunk 2077 was the top-grossing title on PC for the month and the third-highest on consoles, despite being delisted from the PlayStation Store. On top of all its past success, CD Projekt Red may see another influx of sales this fall too, with a next-gen version of the game slated to come at the back-half of the year.
As for the industry as a whole, Superdata adds that $12 billion was spent on digital titles in December, the highest monthly revenue total ever.
