Shiny Pokémon are the rarest variation of a Pokémon you can capture in the game. They are insanely difficult to capture in the standard game, and in Pokémon Go, the chances of encountering one are pretty high, somewhere in the one-in-400 of trying to capture a Pokémon. These high rarity levels make it difficult to capture a standard Pokémon, and a legendary one is even harder given how limited they’re available. Starting on February 4, 2021, Suicune will be reentering five-star raids, and you can capture them once again. We’ve listed out if Suicune was good, its best moveset, and how to beat it. But will its shiny variation be available?
Suicune’s return to five-star raids happens near the end of the Johto Celebration, following Entei who was the previous five-star legendary raid. Entei did have a chance to be shiny, and it follows that Suicune will also have this chance. Suicune has already had its shiny version in the game, so this is not the first time it’s been available.
However, players noted many had a much harder time encountering the shiny version of Entei, and it might be the case for Suicune. The developers normally post if a legendary Pokémon’s shiny form will not be catchable if it has already been released. This occurred for Genesect when it has its burn drive version available in early January. The same would likely have happened if you could not catch Suicune’s shiny version.
It takes multiple attempts to catch a shiny Pokémon, so you’ll want to stock up on raid passes and reach out to friends to see if they can find a raid near them. You’ll want a handful of trainers to work with you to take it down.
