Flint is one of the easier and annoying resources to search for in Valheim. Several beginning recipes require it, but it becomes obsolete over time. You’ll want to use more resources after you start regularly visiting the Mountains biome. However, if you’re looking for a cheap resource to make decent arrows for your bow, flint is the best low-quality resource that fills that niche.
You primarily find flint along the shore of any body of water. This can be a small river running through your world, a large lake in a Meadow, or on the shores of a massive ocean separating multiple islands from each other. They will appear like small rocks but have a distinct, silver color, almost shiny if you catch them in the correct light.
All you have to do is interact with them, and have room in your inventory. If you have room, flint will automatically fill your bag, and you can continue looking for others. When you’ve found one piece of flint, there are bound to be multiple other sources nearby.
There’s no better location to find flint. So long as you’re near the water, typically in the Meadows region, you’re going to find flint. You won’t find it in the Black Forest, Swamps, Mountains, or Plains biome, though. Those locations do not contain the resource, making it easier to track down in locations with less aggressive enemies. The Black Forest surprised us as it is considered one of the starting locations for new players, but we did not locate any flint in these regions. There might be flint along the borders of a Black Forest and Meadows region, but when in the middle of a Black Forest, none of the waterways turned up to have any.
The quickest way to farm flint is to find the nearest body of water and follow a shoreline until your inventory is full. You can always mark the location before heading back to your home to unload the flint you’ve gathered, and then return to that location to pick up where you left off. If you’re having trouble locating flint, find the nearest amount of water and then look in the water or further away from shore.
