There are several raids players can take part in when playing Pokémon Go. These raids pit players up against stronger versions of Pokémon, giving them a chance to capture them at the end. A notably strong Pokémon player might have trouble with is Metang. It’ll be appearing in three-star raids. A three-star raid means players can potentially complete it independently, but they probably need to be around trainer level 35 and have a powerful team to counter Metang completely. If you’re under level 35, we recommend grabbing a friend or two to join you to defeat Metang. It doesn’t have too many weaknesses, but with the correct team, you can beat it.
All Metang weaknesses
Metang is a Steel and Psychic-type Pokémon. It will be weak to Dark, Fire, Ghost, and Ground-type moves, but it’s resistant to Dragon, Fairy, Grass, Ice, Normal, Poison, Psychic, Rock, and Steel-type attacks. Because of these numerous resistance that make Metang’s evolved form, Metagross, an excellent competitor in the Master League.
Best Pokémon counters to Metang
The best Pokémon you can use to counter Metang are Chandelure, Houndoom, and Heatran.
Chandelure is a Ghost and Fire-type Pokémon. It’s one of the several Fire-types that are capable of using the fast move, incinerate, which makes it a compelling choice and a good one to take on Metang. Not only can it exploit its Fire-type weakness, but it can also damage it using Ghost-type attacks. The best moveset Chandelure can use against Metang will be incinerate for its fast move, and then shadow ball and flame charge for its charged moves.
Another choice is Houndoom, a Dark and Fire-type Pokémon. Much like Chandelure, it’s capable of harming Metang by using Dark and Fire-type moves against it. Alternatively, you can choose to mega evolve Houndoom into Mega Houndoom, an even more devastating opponent in raids. You’ll also provide other trainers working with you to defeat it an attack bonus during the battle. For Houndoom, the best moveset you can use in the fight will be the fast move snarl and the charged moves crunch and flamethrower.
The final Pokémon we’re going to recommend using against Metang is the legendary Heatran, a Fire and Steel-type. Because it’s a legendary Pokémon, it’s a bit harder to come by, so not every trainer will have one of them in their collection. But those who do will be able to use it against Metang, and they’ll see excellent results. The best moveset Heatran can use during these battles will be the fast move fire spin and the charged moves flamethrower and iron head.
