The Pokémon 2019 Press Conference is here, and with it comes a lot of speculation for what we might see.
Two upcoming live streams will give fans a look at upcoming content from the Pokémon franchise, but only one of them has a definitive content lineup.
The Pokémon Direct on June 5 is going to focus solely on new information for the upcoming Pokémon Sword and Shield titles for Nintendo Switch, but the Pokémon 2019 Press Conference is a total wildcard.
Got any plans tomorrow? You do now, Trainers!

The official announcement page on the Pokémon website gives no details about the event, but it does say that the “press conference is expected to cover a number of topics of interest to Pokémon fans”. This leads to a full day of speculation about what will come out of the event since it is unlikely we will see anything aboutSword and Shield.
Additional Content
The easiest guess is that it will just show small content updates for several already existing Pokémon titles like Pokémon GO or Pokémon Quest. Considering Pokémon GO has been receiving massive updates almost weekly for the last month or so, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see someone recap what has already been released and then announcing another new piece of content.
Following that, new content for Pokémon Quest or a segment focusing on the newly released Pokémon Rumble Rush could be another point of focus if they are going to be talking about new content and not a new title. There is also an extremely slim chance that we see some type of content update for Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! and there is absolutely no way a new title in that series is announced this close to the new, main series titles.
Another option for the team behind this stream is pushing the success of Detective Pikachu and talking about the graphic novel adaptation coming out in July for a little bit. This would likely be followed by a segment showing a new clip or scene Pokémon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution, which is set to release on Nov. 17.
Movie Tie-in
And speaking of Detective Pikachu, now that the movie is out and the name is out there, this might be the time to announce an HD remaster of the Detective Pikachu video game for Switch. Not only would it do really based just on the success of the movie, but the unique style of gameplay brings even more variety to the console.
The gameplay changes from the two screens of the Nintendo 3DS to the single screen of the Switch would probably take a note out of the Ace Attorney remaster that released not too long ago.
New Titles
The big if in this scenario is if the stream will have one last big surprise in store for fans. Some of the above options are sure to get some of the spotlights, but as Serebii Webmaster, Joe Merrick said pointed out, this conference is known for showing off new titles when it happens.
There have been two of these
One for Let’s Go/Quest last year
One for Pokémon GO.
You have me intrigued https://t.co/kkadD8kzFE

Last year both Let’s Go! titles and Pokémon Quest were announced, and it was also where Pokémon GO was revealed back in 2015. That means all signs are pointing to another spinoff game or mobile title being announced.
Several titles could potentially be brought back, such as Pokémon Rangers or Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. Each franchise had success in the past and hasn’t had a title come out on the Switch, with Rangers not seeing a new entry since Guardian Signs in 2010 in the Nintendo DS.
Both titles could work on both Switch and Mobile, with Rangers especially being a very unique idea for a full touchscreen. The dragging of the stylus would just be replaced with a finger and likely be slightly less accurate.
Mystery Dungeon is more suited for Switch, but changing up the formula to work better for mobile like they did for Rumble Rush could work if done properly. That isn’t even mentioning the madness that would be the announcement of something like a Pokémon Snap sequel.
The Pokémon 2019 Press Conference will begin on May 28 at 6 pm PDT on the official Pokémon Twitch channel.
