Years after its original release, Grand Theft Auto V is still an immensely popular game. Even against new modern titles, the hit game from Rockstar is still managing to place high in monthly sales charts. After its original release on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the game was quickly ported to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Now, the same is happening with current-gen consoles. With no more delays in sight, it appears this newest remaster of the 2013 title is officially set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in just a matter of weeks.
In a post on Rockstar’s website, the developer announced that Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online will be launching on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on March 15, 2022. Upon its debut, players will include graphical modes that allow for 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, ray-tracing, as well as faster loading times. In terms of progression, Rockstar has also confirmed that saves from Story Mode and GTA V Online data on the previous generation of consoles can be transferred to PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Although not much will change inside of its Story Mode, GTA Online is said to include some new experiences exclusive to current-gen hardware. For one, players looking to create a new character can skip the tutorial and go straight to the new Career Builder. This feature will lend characters the option to begin their journey as either a biker, executive, nightclub owners, or gunrunner — each giving players different missions and ways to earn GTA dollars. This version will also implement a new auto body shop known as Hao’s Special Works, which also brings along five new cars.
For now, an upgrade path for the PS5 and Xbox Series versions has not been detailed, but GTA Online will be free for PS5 owners for the first three months after its release.
