DICE and SEED are working on a new tech that will allow Battlefield V AI’s to learn from the player’s behavior. A demo of this new AI system was showcased at recently concluded GDC 2018.
Game Developers Conference is always an interesting place for people who want to learn more about where the games industry is going in the next few years and what devs are working on to shape this business’ future.
Among the most active developers, from that perspective, we can find DICE, which has even established – quite a bit time ago – a specific division called SEED (Search for Extraordinary Experiences Division) to look into future efforts of the main Swedish software house and other EA studios.
Stuff that’s being made now includes an AI that is apparently learning more things based on how its competitor – real players – behave. These things include the likes of going for ammunition when the AI-controlled soldier is running low or replenish its health when it gets diminished somehow.
DICE and SEED claim there’s still a lot of work to do, as many times they note that the AI simply runs in a circle waiting to be killed, so it looks like it’ll take a bit more to see these stuff in a video game.
Anyway, it’s obvious we’re all looking at Battlefield V, the much-rumored upcoming entry in the first person shooter series, to see whether the Swedish developer makes it in time in order to add the new technology into it.
While we can’t tell that for sure, it feels like this could be among the greatest introductions to the franchise ever, so there might be a possibility that DICE and SEED heavily start pushing on this effort in order to make it in time.
In the meantime, check this video about the new AI system just released at the GDC, and let us know what you think in the comments below.
