Nintendo has just made available a Nintendo Switch bundle which comes without the dock. The bundle is now being sold in Japan, and apparently the platform owner doesn’t have any plans on bringing it over here.
“This is in Japan only. We have no plans to release this in our region. Different regions make different decisions based on a variety of factors,” a Nintendo UK spokesperson told IGN when asked about that.
Purchasing this bundle allows Japanese players to save around 45 dollars. While it’s not a big saving, it’s a nice option for those who already own a Nintendo Switch and don’t need a second dock at home.
Looking at what they say, there’s a chance that Nintendo has studied that the platform is being played mostly at home in Europe and North America, while Japanese players are historically loyal to portable gaming while commuting or moving around the city.
In that perspective, this move could also be the beginning of Nintendo’s efforts to allow Nintendo Switch to be a more affordable replacement to Nintendo 3DS, which is (slowly) becoming to get older and less supported.
We’ll see whether this solution might become an option for the Western consumers as well in the future, probably based on the success the initiative has in Japan these days.
