Octopath Traveler is now available for Nintendo Switch, and looking at the early reception it’s safe to say that the game is going to be one of the best hits on the hybrid console by the Japanese platform holder.

Because of this reception, the Business Division 11 has received a lot of requests from players that wanted them to make a new Final Fantasy game or even a Final Fantasy VI remake, considering that Octopath Traveler is at least partially inspired to the original game.

Anyway, co-producer Masashi Takahashi told Eurogamer.net he is not interested in none of these things, as Square Enix wants him to create just new intellectual properties and, on top of that, not necessarily as Nintendo Switch exclusive games.

“To tell the truth I’ve no intention and no wish to go back to the Final Fantasy franchise. After my studio became a division, and Square told us to make new IPs,” Takahashi said.

“There’s no need and no intention to go back to Final Fantasy. A lot of people ask us to do a remake of Final Fantasy VI with this kind of graphics. My role, though, is to make new ideas. I hope that people who enjoy RPGs will grow up with their kids, and be able to pass that on.”

It’s good to hear this, as Octopath Traveler is going to represent a quite unique mixture between classic JRPG titles and new design ideas put into place, something more than projects like I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear that only aimed to rebuild old school role playing games.
