Reddit user troyisprettydamncool has shared his impressions from the San Diego Comic-Con 2018 Spider-Man demo, and they were really, really detailed and enthusiastic.
These impressions grew so popular even community manager James Stevenson and Insomniac Games got to learn about them and shared on Twitter just so that everyone can see them.
First, troyisprettydamncool discussed the traversal, claiming that the game is going to be quite realistic but not obsessive in terms of how it handles the physics.
“It’s not as “ultra physics realistic” as something like Spider-Man 2, so it’s a lot easier to learn and fun even for beginners. The closest I can compare it to is like a mix of Web of Shadows mixed with the good parts of TASM2 swinging, and also with some of that Insomniac fluidity and snappiness,” he said.
“Still physics based, and the webs attach to buildings (I checked, they also connect to poles and trees) but it’s a lot easier to pick up than something like Spider-Man 2.”
Talking about the combat, the user has found out the game is not very similar to Batman: Arkham indeed, although it really looked like that from the previous demo (at least from a spectating point of view), but closer to Devil May Cry although smoother and easier.
“It may look like Arkham combat, but the only thing that’s similar is the squiggly lines. It feels a lot like something out of Devil May Cry but a little bit easier. Air combos are really nice, since they actually give you a little bit of space from melee enemies, but you’re still vulnerable to guys with guns (you also have an air dodge where you web zip a little). Your Spider-Sense/Squiggly lines appear WAYYY before you need to actually dodge.”
Talking about random crimes, there are “Drug deals (fight in an alley, usually turns into a car chase, doesn’t always if you’re good enough),” “car chases with a bomb in a truck (I always took out the car first, then the truck, then took care of the bomb, but I think you can do it all in any order you want),” store robberies and shootouts in the street.
Demon bases are also an interesting piece of the puzzle, as they offer waves of enemies with increasing difficulty levels and you can get out of them taking advantage of the stealth (and with the help of MJ). The Shocker fight is said to be challenging, not as easy as it looked like in the videos, but you need to use the environment and dodge as much as possible to get out alive from it.
That’s it for now, what do you do of these impressions? Let us know in the comments below. Spider-Man is releasing on September 7.
