Elden Ring is a beautiful, brilliant game, and it’s the latest in a long line of smash-hit Souls series by FromSoftware. We’ve had a few months to savor it, but apparently the studio’s next game is already “in the final stages of development.” That’s something to get excited about all over again.
The quote comes from Hidetaka Miyazaki, who’s directed FromSoftware’s projects since the early 2000s. Speaking to 4gamer (translated by deepl on the ResetEra gaming forum), he confirmed that the next game is nearing completion. 4gamer brings up that when Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was first announced, FromSoftware was juggling about three projects: Sekiro itself and two unannounced titles. We know now that one of the unannounced games was Elden Ring. When asked about the other, Miyazaki said the team was “in the final stages of development” for that project.
This doesn’t necessarily mean we’re getting another game in the vein of Elden Ring, Sekiro, and the rest of the series. In fact, a new Armored Core title is most likely what’s being kept under wraps here — Armored Core 6 screenshots leaked at the start of the year. That series is what put FromSoftware on the map in the first place.
Miyazaki might be leading the charge on a new game, but he’s not the only senior staff member at FromSoftware. “In addition to the titles that I myself am directing, we are also developing several titles by directors other than myself,” he added. “But I am not at a stage where I can talk about them in detail yet.” Soulsborne fans certainly have more to look forward to, but they’re not the only audience for future FromSoftware games.
The studio will continue to update Elden Ring as well, Miyazaki reaffirmed. Most recently, update 1.05 improved the Twin Maiden Husk shop and Sacred Flasks. Expect more tweaks like this as the game is further refined.
