After months of rumors, it’s finally confirmed: Ubisoft has halted the development on the Nintendo Switch version of Steep, the snowboarding/skiing/extreme sports simulation.
The news doesn’t come unexpected, but Ubisoft wanted it to be as quiet as possible in order not to further waste the potential of the game and disappoint its userbase.
“We are wholly dedicated to supporting the live game, and made the decision to stop Steep development on the Nintendo Switch platform,” said the official Twitter account.
The decision was took in order to allow the development team “to focus on bringing new live content and challenges to Steep players instead.” From that perspective, “we’ll have more exciting news to share soon.”
It’s curious enough that the decision came this late, but we’re told in the past that the team found huge technical issues that made the building of this port something very tough to handle (perhaps, the always online, open world structure was too heavy for the platform).
Steep launched in December 2016 and the big expansion Road to the Olympics came one year later for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
Hey @RJISAGAMER! We are wholly dedicated to supporting the live game, and made the decision to stop Steep development on the Nintendo Switch platform to focus on bringing new live content and challenges to Steep players instead. We’ll have more exciting news to share soon.
