Microsoft has announced during the latest Inside Xbox broadcast that Xbox One is getting the much-requested mouse and keyboard support as early as this October.

The support will be coming in October for Insiders, while it should be deployed a month later for all the other users. The news is m&k will be a tool at developers’ disposal, as it’ll be their job to decide from time to time if and when take advantage of it.

“It’s important to note that mouse and keyboard support for games is added on a title-by-title basis, entirely at developers’ discretion. For all other titles, nothing changes,” says Microsoft.

“Mouse and keyboard input is not enabled by default for games. Each development team knows their titles best and we support them in creating the right experience for their games as they see fit, to ensure an optimal and fair gaming experience.”

The platform owner also noted that, while all the existing USB mouses and keyboards out there will be compatible with the console, a special partnership has been established with Razer, which is working on dedicated peripherals to be revealed in November.

“You shouldn’t expect that every game on the platform now supports mouse and keyboard,” Phil Spencer said during Inside Xbox. “It’s really about developer choice.”

“These are tools for developers,” Spencer continued. “There are certain games out there that require mouse and keyboard, and those can’t come to console today. If we put those tools in the hands of developers, we’ll get more of those games.”
