With today’s return of Faction Rallies in Destiny 2, Bungie has removed a very popular method of farming Faction Tokens, and players noticed it right away.

Shortly after today’s update was released, players began reporting Lost Sector chests not awarding Faction Tokens. This is deliberate, and a move by Bungie to prevent players from using a farming method.

“There was a throttle added to address an issue in the previous Faction Rallies where players were earning 500 Tokens per hour,” Bungie said. “Right now if a player opens more than two chests in a 10 minute period they will not receive additional rewards from Lost Sector chests for 10 minutes. This does not prevent players from completing milestones related to Lost Sector chests.”

The method in question is undoubtedly one that was used by intrepid gamers during November’s Faction Rally, involving a Lost Sector in the Winding Cove section of the EDZ on Earth.

Players found out that they could repeatedly loot the chest at the end of the Lost Sector by turning back into the area before completely leaving it, and it was spammable enough to earn hundreds of Tokens in a short period of time.

Now, it appears that the best method of earning the Tokens will be the old fashioned way—to play the game’s activities, like Public Events and Crucible matches. The cooldown is upsetting, however, for those who loot Lost Sector chests in rapid succession legitimately.
