Chris Columbus, who is best known for directing the first two Harry Potter movies and Home Alone, will be directing the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy’s movie.

The horror game sensation does not have any kind of release time frame for its movie adaptation yet, but Columbus joining the project is a significant step for a film that has been in the works for nearly three years.

Deadline also reports that Columbus will also produce the movie alongside FNAF’s creator Scott Cawthon.

FNAF is a horror game series that revolves around a group of possessed animatronic robots. The aim of the game is to survive five nights being hunted by these machines as a terrorized security guard in a Pizzeria establishment.

After the original game was released in April 2014 it became a YouTube sensation, and Cawthon begun cranking out sequels at a prodigious rate. The sixth game was released for free on Steam in December 2017.

The film has been in the works since early 2015, when Warner Bros. acquired the rights to adapt it. The director of the Poltergeist remake, Gil Kenan, was expected to direct the film, but the movie’s development stalled. Blumhouse Studios acquired the rights for the movie last year, seemingly putting the project back on track.
