The localised version of the game will come with a bunch of new additions for the Western audience. These include English voiced dialogue, a Hard Mode option, overhauled menus, and a first-person camera mode.

“Our aim with Dragon Quest XI and the Dragon Quest brand is to grow the audience in the West,” Square Enix told IGN. “From a business point of view, it made strategic sense to release the 3DS version in Japan in 2017. For the West in 2018, it made the most sense to focus on the PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam) platforms.”

Dragon Quest XI was initially released in Japan on July 29, 2017, for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo 3DS only. The Japanese version of the game did work on western systems, but if you didn’t speak Japanese it wasn’t much good.

For its Western release, however, the game will only be releasing on PlayStation 4 and PC with a Switch version currently in development. The Nintendo 3DS version of the game will not be coming out in the West at all.

Dragon Quest XI is the first Dragon Quest main title game to be available on PC for North America and Europe.
