Still chugging along and playing Minecraft on older platforms like Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3? The latest content drop in Minecraft, also known as the Update Aquatic, will be the very last one coming to said platforms.
Anyone playing on PlayStation Vita and Wii U can kiss regular content updates goodbye as well, as Microsoft has decided that it will no longer be updating those versions following the Update Aquatic. Looks like it’ll finally be time to hop on another platform.Â
If you’re playing the Xbox One or Nintendo Switch versions of the game specific to each console, you won’t see them either. You’ll need to use the Bedrock version of Minecraft if you want to snap this sweet new update. The Switch version’s release date is still forthcoming, so you’ll need to keep an eye out for that.
“Although we’d love to keep bringing new content to all our players forever, the older generation of consoles now make up less than five percent of our active players,” Microsoft says of the decision to pivot from older platforms and the Bedrock versions of the game.
The Update Aquatic is a doozy of an expansion to go out on, however. It’ll bring brand-new ocean biomes, plants, blocks, and other fun decorative items to go with it, turtles and dolphins, as well as a trident weapon. There’s also a new mob to contend with if you’re brave enough. Just make sure you upgrade your Minecraft edition to a new platform if you want to keep playing.
