Shuyo Murata and Hideo Kojima’s excellent Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner series is coming to PC with a newly-remastered version with 4K graphics and VR support. While the proposed release date was previously a bit nebulous and simply slated for this fall, Konami has announced that we’ll get a chance to try out this game on Sept. 6.
Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner originally debuted on PlayStation 2 15 years ago in 2003. This version of the game boasts a new “Pro Mode” controller setup that facilitates rapid-fire attacks, as well as a “Very Easy” difficulty setting that should make it easier for beginners to breeze through the game.
There’s also a selection of training modules, a 3D Hangar, 3D Model Viewer, and a Cinematic Theater to really drive home the virtual reality functions with this new version of the game. And perhaps most importantly to some players, this version looks way better than the original. The differences are staggering, but that’s to be expected.
Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner M∀RS, aside from having a weirdly stylized name, is a game that’s taken far too long to get the respect it deserves. It’s about time we see some more love for the Zone of the Enders series.
If this re-release does well, hopefully we can look for a new game in the future, though Hideo Kojima missing from Konami’s stable might cement the fact that we probably won’t. We can certainly still dream, though.
