Nintendo Switch may be getting Netflix and YouTube apps, Best Buy listing suggests

Netflix and YouTube may join Hulu on the Nintendo Switch in the coming days ahead, according to an alleged leak from Best Buy.

Netflix and YouTube may be coming to Nintendo Switch after all.

A new listing posted by Best Buy claims that Nintendo Switch users can “stream movies, listen to music, and access a wide variety of other content” through their devices. And the store listing says Switch users can stream Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube on the console, suggesting apps for both Netflix and YouTube are on the way.

The feature, which was first spotted by Reddit’s r/NintendoSwitch, implies that video streaming capabilities may be announced during tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct: E3 2018 stream.

The listing could also be a mistake, however. The Nintendo Switch was never described as a “smart-enabled” console before, and Nintendo has repeatedly pushed back against including Netflix on the console, even though the streaming service is more than willing to make Netflix on Switch a reality.

Originally, the Nintendo Switch received the NicoNico streaming app last July, debuting video services on the console. Nintendo did not make the app available outside of Japan, however, and services like Twitch and Mixer are still missing from the Switch’s library. While that may change, fans will have to wait until tomorrow to learn more about Nintendo’s plans for the future.

In the meantime, Hulu is already available on Nintendo Switch.

Update 4:46pm CT: Best Buy has since removed any references to the Nintendo Switch’s YouTube, Netflix, and Hulu streaming capabilities. Hulu is still available on the console, however. It remains to be seen whether the message was added by mistake. Additional context has also been added to this story.
