The world’s most popular game was confirmed for Nintendo’s handheld console hybrid during its E3 presentation yesterday, and it was available to download less than an hour later. Since then, its popularity has boomed.

“That speaks to an engaged audience on Nintendo Switch as well as the core proposition of, I can now take it with me and play anywhere, anytime, with anyone, it’s really resonated,” Reginald Fils-Aimé, chief operating officer of Nintendo of America, told IGN.

Many Switch users were surprised to see that they could not play the game on the new console with their Epic Games account if it had already been tied to a PS4 account. This is due to a decision by Sony to prevent cross-play from happening.

“We embrace working with a developer and enabling them to bring their vision to life,” Fils-Aime said. “And whether that’s Fortnite, whether that’s a number of the other games that have cross-platform play on our console, from a developer standpoint that’s what we want. And we work hard with them to bring that to life. What competitors do is their decision to make. We believe being both developer-forward and fan-forward is in the best interest of the game.”

In an announcement for the Fortnite World Cup yesterday, Epic Games also announced that the game had reached 125 million players. Now that it’s on Switch, and soon coming to Android, that number will only grow.
