A special Squirtle Squad Squirtle is coming to Pokémon Go’s July community day on July 8.

The Squirtle Squad were a group of Pokémon that appeared in the Pokémon anime in the 1990s. The special group of Pokémon were a rebel gang of Squirtles that were abandoned by their trainers and caused mischief in a town in Kanto.

The group of five Pokémon were a big part of people’s childhoods and are fondly remembered to this day. They also recently made a cameo appearance in the Pokémon Sun and Moon anime, nearly 20 years after they were first introduced.

The special Squirtle will only be available as a Field Research task and won’t be available in the wild. The mission, as well as what you will need to do to unlock it, has not been announced.

Alongside the sunglasses wearing squirtle, a special shiny variant of Squirtle will also be available to find in the wild. That shiny variant won’t, unfortunately, have sunglasses.

It is also unknown if the Squirtle will keep the special glasses when it evolves into Warturtle and Blastoise. Pokémon that have been given special hats or looks in the past in Pokémon Go, such as Santa and Pokémon Day Pikachu, kept their item after evolution. In theory, it is possible that trainers will be able to get themselves Squirtle Squad Blastoise if they evolve the Squirtle successfully, but Niantic has not announced anything at this time.
