The Minecraft and Adventure Time episode finally aired on Cartoon Network this weekend, giving fans the chance to see how a Minecraft-themed world would influence the lives of Finn, Jake, Ice King, Tree Trunks et al.
The episode, titled “Diamonds and Lemons” follows Finn as he looks to find a use for a bunch of diamonds that Jake found in the mines. Along his adventure, Finn comes across a mix of other Adventure Time and Minecraft characters going about their blocky lives, building, destroying, exploring. All the while, Justin Roiland-voiced Lemongrab frustratingly attempts to plant a lemon tree.
The one-off episode has been made to fill the void between episodes in season 11 of the show. The series finale had a teaser trailer shown off at SDCC 2018, marking the end of the nearly ten-year run of the beloved animated series. The conclusion centers around a war between the main cast that will decide the fate of the Land of Ooo once and for all.
This isn’t the first time that Minecraft and Adventure Time have joined forces. Both Cartoon Network and Mojang released the Adventure Time Mash-Up Pack last year on all platforms, and gave players the chance to use skins based on characters from the series and explore the Land of Ooo in Minecraft form. In a way, the TV show is just returning the favor.
Adventure Time has frequently worn its love of video games on its sleeve. The series has had many guest directors over the years, but one of the first was Everything and Mountain creator David O’Reilly. The season 5 episode, “A Glitch Is a Glitch,” was appropriately about the virtual world within the fantasy world.
