Telltale Games has released the first 15 minutes of The Walking Dead: The Final Season’s first episode. It opens with an older Clementine driving little A.J. down the road in a pickup truck as he struggles to read a cookbook. Clementine has come full circle as a lead. Taking care of A.J. just like Lee cared for her when The Walking Dead games began in 2012. This adventure will no doubt saddle us with plenty of wrought decisions to make in the zombie apocalypse.

While this may be called The Final Season, that may only be true for Clementine. At San Diego Comic-Con, Telltale Games creative director Kent Mudle told IGN that The Final Season is “the end of Clementine’s journey,” adding that “that’s as much as I’ll say on that.”

This isn’t confirmation that there are additional games coming down the pipeline for The Walking Dead horde of fans, but it was a cheeky enough response that keeps the gates open for Telltale’s most successful series. There have been other spin-offs, such as The Walking Dead: Michonne and 400 Days. It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility to see another spin-off detailing the fates of the various living characters in the land of the dead.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season’s first episode launches on Aug. 14, 2018 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC with a Switch release forthcoming.
