The third and final video of Blizzard’s “Warbringers” series, Azshara, was revealed today at Gamescom 2018. The series spotlights powerful and influential female characters in World of Warcraft, with previous shorts highlighting Jaina Proudmoore and Sylvanas Windrunner. It was revealed very early on that the third video would finally offer some background on Queen Azshara, a character constantly referenced throughout World of Warcraft’s history (there’s even a zone named after her).

It was revealed very early on that the third video would finally offer some background on Queen Azshara, a character constantly referenced throughout World of Warcraft‘s history (there’s even a zone named after her).

Players have long speculated that she would be featured as a raid boss in Warcraft, and their hopes were confirmed at last year’s BlizzCon event. Warcraft encounter director Morgan Day confirmed earlier this year that she would be the “Gul’dan of Battle for Azeroth,” meaning players can expect to see her as a prominent raid boss later in the expansion. In addition, Queen Azshara is prominently featured in Blizzard’s latest key art, revealed for Gamescom 2018. Players can expect to see her story, and that of Nazjatar (the naga’s capital city) fleshed out in future Battle for Azeroth content.

In the meantime, you can check out the latest “Warbringers” short for a glimpse into her background and learn more about how the former night elf became ruling queen of the naga. Queen Azshara curiously has similar talking-fish visions to that of Tony Soprano.
