Many years ago, gaming was ruled by the likes of the Bitmap Bros, Westwood, and Bullfrog. One of the best games of my teen years was Syndicate Wars. Why should you care about this? Satellite Reign, spiritual successor to Syndicate Wars, is currently free on Humble! Developed by 5 Lives Studios, Satellite Reign is the perfect successor to the isometric corporate war simulator that was the Syndicate series.

Satellite Reign heavily invests in that most holy of cyberpunk visions, dropping you into rain slicked, neon city streets. The potential for violence is everywhere, the only thing keeping your four man crew alive is your wits, and weapons. It is up to you to traverse the city, completing contracts, and generally being a cyberpunk badass.

Satellite Reign is a real-time, class-based strategy game, set in an open-world cyberpunk city. You command a group of 4 agents through rain-soaked, neon-lit streets, where the law is the will of mega-corporations. Use your agents to sneak, shoot, steal, and sabotage your way up the corporate ladder, and take control of the most powerful monopoly of all time.

Each of your agents can be tailored toward your favoured play-style, while still maintaining their own unique specialisations. Shape your team into an offensive war machine, or an elite covert spec-ops outfit, and take the open-world city as your own.

I’ve put a lot of time into this game, and found it perfectly scratched the itch for that classic Syndicate feel. Even if you have never played that series, I urge you to download this game and give it a shot. You might find you really enjoy putting the boot to corporate backed scum as you attempt to become the biggest threat in the city. It will be free for roughly the next two days, so grab it while you can.
