Niantic announced a brand new Special Research coming to Pokémon GO on August 20. This Special Research will feature the Mythical Pokémon Celebi.
Niantic announced that the Mythical Pokémon Celebi is finally coming to Pokémon GO. Celebi will only be able to be caught through Special Research.
Professor Willow will drop Special Research tasks for catching Celebi on August 20 worldwide. Completing missions will gain players experience, useful items, and encounters with certain Pokémon on the way to catching Celebi.
If you haven’t finished the Special Research tasks for Mew, you will still be able to do Special Research tasks for Celebi as long as you have completed the third group of tasks related to Mew. Both Special Research tasks can be done at the same time, so you won’t need to worry about finishing one before the other.
Along with the presence of Celebi, more Pokémon initially discovered in the Johto region will be spotted more frequently in the wild and Field Research. Now is a great time to finish up any Johto Pokémon you have left to catch.
To celebrate the region of Johto even more, head to the Style Shop and show your Johto pride with a brand new Celebi t-shirt for free. In addition to the Celebi t-shirt, avatar items will also be available from Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver that will unlock according to your Johto medal progress.
With the announcement of Celebi, we will hopefully see another missing Pokémon from Gen II soon as well. Smeargle is yet to be discovered, and I know everyone is anxious to add this Normal-type Pokémon to their PokéDex.
