Elite: Dangerous pilots will get two new toys in the upcoming Elite Dangerous: Beyond – Chapter Four update: the Mamba and the Krait Phantom.
The fourth chapter of Elite Dangerous: Beyond is fast approaching, with a release date in 2018 and not much time left in the calendar year. Chapter Four has been in open beta for just under a month and is slated to bring new features, including a new analysis mod, asteroid belt mining operations, and squadrons. But every true space pilot knows that what’s really exciting are some new toys for the virtual flyboys. Frontier Developments has revealed the two new ships that will be launched with the update: the Mamba and Krait Phantom.
Elite Dangerous: Beyond – Chapter Four – Mamba
The Mamba sounds a lot like what space jockey’s wet dreams are made out of, combining a balance of speed with raw firepower. Based on an unreleased racing prototype, the Mamba brings blistering speed combined with massive firepower to Elite Dangerous. Its loadout features one huge and two large hardpoints, meaning the Mamba’s emphasis on power and speed allows players to hit hard and vanish before a target has had time to react.
Elite Dangerous: Beyond – Chapter Four – Krait Phantom
If on first glance the Krait Phantom looks like the Millenium Falcon from Star Wars, then you’d be forgiven, as Frontier Developments’ featured screenshot is cleverly chosen. While nothing could approach such a legendary comparison, the Krait Phantom does offer some comparable features. Following on from its sister ship the Krait Mk II, the Phantom is a lighter, faster ship that features a spacious cargo hold and relatively generous quantity of hardpoints. Though it may not boast the same firepower as the Mk II, the Phantom can still hold its own against larger targets and has enough straight-line speed to outpace smaller ships.
Elite Dangerous: Beyond – Chapter Four will be released later this year and is currently in open beta if you want to explore the many new features.
