One of the most recurrent comments about God of War is that it lacks boss fights, as you only meet a few of them during the entire game.
Interestingly, in a new interview, creative director Cory Barlog claimed that it was supposed to have many more of them.
“We cut a lot of bosses – a lot,” Barlog told NoClip’s Danny O’Dwyer.
“Y’know, we had so many more, it was a much more ambitious, crazier game. As you go through development, you start realizing, no, it’s too big, we can’t do this.
One boss takes like 30 developers a year and a half. It’s an absolutely massive scale when you really consider it.”
He also explained that the trolls weren’t meant to be proper boss fights and that was a ‘simple’ design choice.
The team had trouble figuring out where to put the health bar, so they opted for a fixed one similar to those you have when fighting bosses.
