New Detective Pikachu Trailer Unveiled, Live Action Mewtwo Revealed

Not long after the reveal of tomorrow’s mini Pokémon direct, the latest trailer for the Pokémon Detective Pikachu movie dropped. The trailer showed off more wacky shenanigans that our title Pikachu will get involved in, including getting involved with an underground Pokémon fighting ring and facing against one of the franchise’s most infamous Legendary Pokémon.

Detective Pikachu is based on the video game of the same name, which is a spin-off title of the highly successful Pokémon mega-media franchise. The movie is live-action and takes place in the fictional city of Rhyme, with the CGI Pokémon having a more realistic look, a contrast to their video game/anime appearances.

Other than our fabled Pikachu, the other Pokémon that have been showcased in the city of Rhym are Psyduck, Greninja, Charizard, Bulbasaur, Jigglypuff, and, of course, the creepy Mr. Mime.

This newest trailer revealed even more Pokémon, with Flareon, Snorlax, Ludicolo, Blastoise, Gengar, Cubone, Loudred, and many more making their live-action debut. The trailer also showed off some Pokémon moves, including ones that look like Volt Tackle, Thunder Shock, and Double Team.

Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out for a Hero” is played in the background in the trailer. The trailer ends with the surprise reveal of the original Legendary Pokémon, Mewtwo, who smashes its way through a Pikachu balloon.

The plot of Detective Pikachu may seem odd, it is about a talking Pikachu who trying to solve the disappearance of a boy’s father, and Pikachu is played by none other than Ryan Reynolds. But the trailers have looked a ton fun. While we all are still recovering from seeing Mr. Mime in live action, the Pokémons have actually looked pretty cool.

The latest showed off more interesting Pokémon stuff, and ends with the cool reveal of Mewtwo, setting the stage of what may be an adequate adaptation of the Pokémon brand that is safe for the whole family.

Pokémon Detective Pikachu is expected to release on May 10 of this year.
