Amid the rumors of Xbox Game Pass coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch, there’s a new statement from Phil Spencer that servers as a hint to that move by Microsoft.
The head of Xbox has indeed claimed that he wants “to bring Game Pass to any device that somebody wants to play on.”
“We want to bring Game Pass to any device that somebody wants to play on. Not just because it’s our business, but really because the business model allows for people to consume and find games that they wouldn’t have played in any other space,” he told Geekwire.
Despite what people might think, Spencer doesn’t believe that such move could cannibalize Microsoft’s business, with less Xbox consoles sold around the world.
“That is not where you make money. The business inside of games is really selling games, and selling access to games and content in means like that is the fundamental business,” he reminded.
“So if you open it up, the more often people can play, the more they’re enjoying the art form. It increases the size of the business.”
This really makes the picture a bit clearer when it comes to understanding why Microsoft is working like this on Xbox Game Pass.
