Project xCloud keeps being developed at Microsoft, ahead of the public trial which should happen over the year.

This is Xbox’s effort in the cloud gaming, in a year when streaming is going mainstream thanks to Google Stadia and most likely a renewed focus on PlayStation Now from Sony.

On Twitter, EVP at gaming Phil Spencer has shared that the team at Project xCloud has reached a new milestone, that will allow them to test the platform at their home ahead of the public trial.

“Congrats to Project xCloud team for completing their takehome release,” Spencer said in a tweet. “Excited to get feedback from our internal teams ahead of public trials later this year.”

According to intel gathered by Thurrott’s Brad Sams, Microsoft could be planning to show how the technology works in a home environment at E3 2019.

In that occasion, we think, xCloud should be revealed with full retail branding and an idea of when we’ll get to play this test if not the test itself releasing upon that day in June.

It’ll be interesting to see what kind of impact this streaming platform is going to have on the Xbox brand. Whether this harms the console business for Microsoft or will let the brand itself spread its wings outside of the PC/console market where the platform owner doesn’t seem to have an easy time in the challenge to Sony.
