There’s been a bit of confusion lately as Cyberpunk 2077 was told not to be sharing the same timeline as the famed Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop game it is inspired to.
Luckily enough, especially for those among you who have played the original game, this is not the case as Mike Pondsmith, creator of 2020 working together with CD Projekt RED on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One title, has precise in the official subreddit.
“Ahem. There’s still an incorrect interview floating around the interwebs that states that Cyberpunk 2077 and Cyberpunk 2020 are separate timelines,” he started with.
“To clear this up, I am posting RIGHT HERE AND NOW that the timeline is unified, with the path moving from Cyberpunk 2013 thru Cyberpunk 2020, then through Cyberpunk RED and up to Cyberpunk 2077.”
That’s something that will appeal the fans of the original game and, to be honest, even though I’ve not played anything from that universe, I’m happy too. It’ll make the CDPR first-person RPG look like something part of a bigger universe, and that’ll be fascinating to explore.
“Lord knows, we spent enough time hashing the details out over the past six months. Expect more on this later,” Pondsmith also said, hinting that there’s something on the way to make that clearer along the way.
Cyberpunk 2077 is releasing at some point (there are still rumors of a 2019 launch around) for the platforms mentioned above and is going to be at E3 2019, so more news is coming.
