Indie developer Bithell Games branches out into licensed properties.

A John Wick video game has seemed like a natural licensed property for a while now, but I don’t think anyone would have guessed what form it would take. Good Shepherd Entertainment and Mike Bithell (Thomas Was Alone, Quarantine Circular) are developing a strategy game for the hit action franchise that describes combat as “like a game of chess.”

While the 60-second trailer features little gameplay footage, it looks like it’s going to be a game of resource management and puzzle solving as much as strategy, being somewhat of a turn-based stealth action game. The closest thing I can liken it to from the roughly 10 seconds of gameplay shown is Metal Gear Acid, a well-received but relatively little known PSP game from 2004. That makes it a fairly unique game on the market all things considered, so I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with this largely unexplored genre of game. There’s a lot of room for creative level design and problem-solving here.

While no release date is set, it is confirmed to be a timed Epic Games Store exclusive on Mac and PC for an unspecified time after it release (six months to a year if the trend holds for other exclusives Epic has captured in recent months). The will be released on consoles, though it is unclear which ones at this time. Hopefully, it makes it to the Switch or even has a mobile app release; this kind of game is perfect for playing on the go.

As always as new information appears, we’ll keep you up to date.
