Bethesda have removed Rage 2 Denuvo protections in the latest patch for the game.
In today’s patch for Rage 2, Denuvo anti-tamper tech has been removed from the game. Bethesda released patch notes for the update, which included the details about the removal of Denuvo. You can check out the full list of changes below.
The phrasing of the patch notes implies that this is being done at player’s request, but I think a more realistic look at the situation would be as follows. Denuvo was used in the game, but not mentioned anywhere in the EULA, and it had already been defeated. How? Because the Bethesda launcher version of the game didn’t have it, so people just used that one to crack, and then pirate the game.
There was some potential trouble about using Denuvo without any mention to the consumer, and the fact that the game is already up on various torrent sites means that holding on to it is just adversely affecting performance for no reason. Bethesda seems to be having a difficult time doing things in a way that doesn’t reflect on them poorly lately, and I would have to put this whole Denuvo thing into the same pile as other recent mistakes.
It’s definitely good news for people who were having performance issues that were being placed at the feet of Denuvo, however. The bad news is that if you still have those issues, there is no Denuvo boogeyman to take the blame! For the full (if somewhat short) list of patch notes, you can find them below.
