That’s all the information we have right now, but it was enough to spur plenty of speculation. Judging by the post’s comments, most people take this as a sign that there may be a long-overdue sequel to the 2003 Grand Theft Auto-inspired game The Simpsons: Hit & Run. From those comments, it also seems like plenty of people are going to be very disappointed if that’s not the case.
There’s a long history of games based on The Simpsons, many of which have been quite well received, going back to 1991’s Bart vs. The Space Mutants. The most widely liked entry is probably the 1991 arcade game simply called The Simpsons, another game that Twitter commenters seem keen on seeing revived. Despite the 25-plus title catalog of games based on The Simpsons, there hasn’t been a game based on the show since 2012’s mobile game, Tapped Out.
The E3 Coliseum will host panels, first looks at new games, and other presentations open to the public throughout the show. You can find a full schedule on E3’s website.
