As you might recall, Battlefield 1942 has never been released outside of Origin on PC, and this is something people using Steam on their computers has always been disappointed about. At least, they were until today.

Indeed, a Battlefield 1942 clone has popped up over Steam, and of course, it’s not being developed by DICE nor baked by its publisher Electronic Arts.

The title has been discovered by PC players over the ResetEra forums and is called Tank BATTLEGROUNDS, with a release date fixed at May 30, 2019.

The game is not shying away from the comparison with Battlefield 1942, to the point that its description on Steam is a copy/paste work from Origin’s description for the original game.

In the description, most of the text is edited to have Tank BATTLEGROUNDS placed instead of Battlefield 1942, except one line where the name Battlefield 1942 is clearly outlined (maybe they forgot to fix that part of the text).

Here’s that part of the text so you can have a good laugh:

“In order to win, Battlefield 1942 pays more attention to teamwork. For example, in a bomber, one player is responsible for flying the plane, while the other two teammates are responsible for the co-production of machine gunners and escort aircraft. The cooperation of these three players will enable us to gain the greatest air superiority, suppress the enemy’s vital forces, and ensure that the crew can survive from the battlefield.”

Laughs aside, it is crazy that a game like this (with even the trailer being a clone of Battlefield 1942’s announcement trailer) has managed to go this far on Steam, and it is something that clearly underlines the flaws of the platform.

It does that so much that you’d think of a prank, even though it’s rather clear that developer and publisher自由合伙人 aren’t joking at all.
