Detective Pikachu 2 for Nintendo Switch announced.

During the Pokémon 2019 Press Conference, the team behind the Detective Pikachu game for Nintendo 3DS back in 2017 confirmed a sequel is in the works for Nintendo Switch.

This upcoming title will be a direct sequel to the popular title that was recently made into a blockbuster movie of the same name.

Detective Pikachu focused on the story of Tim Goodman traveling to Rhyme City to look for his father, a detective who went missing two months ago. He quickly meets a Pikachu that only he can understand, before teaming up with him to solve crimes and mysteries.

The game is a mix between point-and-click adventure segments, exploring and investigating areas of the world, and quick-time events during cutscenes. The touch screen elements would still work on the Switch, but the sequel will likely heavily change the interface and optimize it for a single screen.

The game ended with a blatant cliffhanger and a To Be Continued screen before Tim and Pikachu can find Tim’s dad. Because of this, the sequel has a lot of potentials to build on the good, but the relatively short story of the original.

There was some speculation that the original game would be released for Switch around the time of the theatrical release for the Pokémon Detective Pikachu movie. This new title is being made from the ground up for the Switch, which should let the team working on it create a much more impressive game this time.

It is unclear when this title will be released, but fans should look forward to more information in the coming weeks.
