PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan has offered lots of interesting tidbits during an interview with CNET, which we’ll make sure to cover over the next few minutes. One of the most newsworthy comments he shared is one about what’s next after PS5 for Sony, whether it is the last console from the Japanese platform owner or there’s more to come in the future.

Ryan was quite honest in telling people that he doesn’t know what could happen in the future, and that’s sincere we can say, since there’s still one year between us and PlayStation 5, and things can change so fast in the entertainment and gaming industry.

“What I think is: I don’t know. I’ve been around awhile, and I sat there in 2012 and listened to all sorts of smart people tell me about mobile and that the PlayStation 4 was going to be the most terrible failure ever,” he said, reminding that PS4 was also reported to be Sony’s last console potentially.

“The logic was hard to fault. But we believed in that product then, we believe in this next generation product now. Who knows how it might evolve? Hybrid models between console and some cloud model? Possibly that. I don’t know. And if I did know, I wouldn’t tell you.”

Of course, there’s always a rumor around that a particular platform owner’s console would be its last, and something similar has happened to Microsoft all over Xbox One’s lifecycle. They even doubled down with two Xbox One models and reportedly two Xbox Scarlett models, and hopefully, the future will be shiny to them as it’ll be for Sony with PS5.
