Cyberpunk 2077 Product Listing Reveals Key Plot Detail | E3 2019

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Cyberpunk 2077’s listing on various retailers’ sites includes an important bit of information that hasn’t been revealed yet by CD Projekt Red.

Earlier today, CD Projekt Red made Cyberpunk 2077 available for pre-order ahead of its April 2020 release. A closer examination of the game’s product details has revealed a key part of its plot.

The relevant bit of information appears on the game’s listing on Steam, Best Buy, and Gamestop (which is where we grabbed these screenshots). According to the product description, “You play as V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality.” We already knew that the protagonist’s name was V, of course, but the fact that they’re chasing immortality is new.

Other stories in the cyberpunk genre have dealt with delaying or avoiding death through technological means, so it’s not entirely new ground. It is one of the first solid pieces of the game’s plot to be revealed so far, though. We know that V is a mercenary, so they’re likely chasing the immortality chip for a client rather than themselves. After all, only the rich can afford the best tech in Night City, and what better tech is there than an implant that lets you live forever?

CD Projekt Red has said that players will be able to make choices that affect the plot of Cyberpunk 2077, so this implant is likely to bring up some important choices. Turning it over to the people who are paying you to find it could make you rich, but maybe there are others out there who would pay even more. Or maybe it’s worth it to use it yourself and invite all the trouble that would bring. As we saw in the trailer released today, bringing too much attention to yourself in Night City is never a good thing.

We’re hoping that CD Projekt Red starts being a little more open with details about the game as its release date approaches, but in any case, we’ll be able to find the answers to all our questions on our own when it launches April 16 of next year.
