Samurai Showdown’s first season pass will feature four new fighters and one skin, and it’s free for players as long as they grab it this week.
Samurai Shodown’s Season 1 DLC pass is free to claim this week, even for PS4 players who don’t own the game yet. If you want to get in on the deal, you have until July 2 to claim it. The season pass is also available for the Xbox One version of the game, but as of this article’s publication, it’s tied to the purchase of the game. Samurai Shodown, which launched today, is a revival of classic fighting game series that hasn’t seen a new mainline entry in over 10 years. If you’re even thinking about getting it, there’s no reason not to grab the free season pass while you still can.
Grabbing the season pass will net you one free character skin today, followed by four entirely new characters to be released over the next eight months. When you claim the season pass, you’ll have immediate access to the “Retro 3D Nakoruru” skin for Nakoruru, a fighter who appears in the base game. Nakoruru is a fan-favorite character who’s been around since the first game in the series and who also appears frequently in SNK’s marketing. The Retro 3D Nakoruru skin gives the fighter an old-school feel, not by changing her outfit too much, but by rendering her in a chunky, low-poly style.
The rest of the updates bring new characters to the game, rather than skins for existing fighters. The characters coming to the game are Rimururu, who releases in August, followed by Basara in October, Kazuki Kazama in December, and Wan-Fu next year in February. Each of these DLC additions is a well-liked character that has appeared in previous entries in the Samurai Shodown series. Unlike the Retro 3D Nakoruru skin, they’ll also bring their fighting style to the game.
If you don’t manage to pick up the season pass for free this week, you have to purchase it for $19.99 after the promotion ends, or buy any of the DLC characters separately. Samurai Shodown is available for PS4 and Xbox One as of today and the season pass is available on both platforms. The game is also expected to get PC and Switch releases later this year.
