The rumors about a Nintendo Switch Mini have been around for months. It looks like we are getting closer to an official reveal for Nintendo’s revised console. In a statement, Nintendo acknowledged those rumors and said it’s always working on new hardware.

“We acknowledge that there have been reports [about this],” came from the statement that was shared during Nintendo’s 79th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, today in Kyoto, Japan. “Answering to rumors and speculations would end up stealing surprises from our customers and also be unprofitable to all of our shareholders, so we have no answer to that. As a general theory, we are always performing the development of new hardware.”

Nintendo is saying that it’s not going to give away any announcement ahead of time to prevent ruining the surprise for fans. We can take this as Nintendo drawing closer to announcing the Switch Mini, or whatever next piece of hardware they release.

The rumors circle around that Nintendo could also be working on a more robust model of the Nintendo Switch. It’s a similar transition Nintendo had with the New Nintendo 3DS, even though that could be a bit further in the pipeline of the platform owner.
