Destiny 2 Server Maintenance Is Today, So Don’t Freak Out If You Can’t Log In

Destiny 2 is down for maintenance, so if you can’t log on don’t worry. It won’t last forever though, so read on to find out when you can get back to doing Guardian things.

Destiny 2 will be undergoing server maintenance today, as the game prepares for the arrival of the much wished for cross save feature. Servers will be down for a total of 12 hours, from 7 am PDT, to 7 pm PDT.

The full notes on what is happening, and what is being affected behind the scenes, are listed below;

  • Destiny 1 and 2 will be brought offline for maintenance.
  • This is to prepare for Cross Save in Destiny 2 later this fall.
  • Maintenance is expected to conclude at 7 PM PDT (0200 UTC).
  • Bungie.net and Destiny Companion features will be unavailable on Web, Mobile, and Third-Party apps.

As such, you won’t be able to do much at all, as the entire backend will be down, you won’t even be able to organize your armor collection in the many useful third-party apps that help the Destiny community out every day. Everything should be back up and running again by 7 pm PDT though.

Destiny 2 is also preparing for the release of Destiny 2: New Light in September when the game switches to free-to-play. The new version will contain plenty of free content for people to play, and they can then choose to expand their experience with further content if they wish. It’s the start of a lot of changes on the horizon for Destiny 2, as Bungie seek to take it in some new directions since they parted ways with Activision recently.

September will also see the release of Shadowkeep, the newest expansion for Destiny 2 that will take us all back to the moon, for some lunar shenanigans. Noted space-goth Eris Morn shall return, with a new threat for us to face. There will be a new Raid, new Strikes, a new Dungeon, and new missions and adventures for us to go on. On top of that, the game is making a move to Steam, leaving the Blizzard app behind.

As such, it’s a time of a lot of change for Destiny 2, so this isn’t the last time I would expect to see long server maintenance as we get closer to all these changes arriving in the game.
