Pokémon Go is celebrating its third anniversary this weekend.

Pokémon Go released back in July 2016 and was an instant sensation. While it is no longer as prominent as it once was, the game still has millions of players worldwide.

Starting tomorrow, June 28, the game celebrates its third anniversary. Niantic revealed their plans for the anniversary, detailing what participating players will get this weekend.

During this event, players have the chance to encounter a Shiny Alolan Pokémon. The Alolan Pokémon that players could potentially encounter are Rattata, Sandshrew, Vulpix, Diglett, Meowth, Geodude, Grimer, and Exeggutor.

Special Avatar items are also available in the Style Shop. These special Avatar items feature the team leaders’ unique styles.

Additionally, during the event, the party hat wearing Pikachu is returning to the game. Players can encounter party hat Pikachu once a day when they take a Pokémon Go Snapshot photo. Players can also get a party hat Pichu if they hatch a 7 km egg.

Party hat Pikachu and Pichu will remain available until July 6.

Jump-Start Research start on the same day as the celebration. Jump-Start Research tasks are a new kind of Special Research that give new or continuing players helpful rewards. The Special Research tasks are meant to help lapse or new players jump-start their adventures. These tasks are only available to players who are at level 10 or higher.

Jump-Start Research tasks close on September 2.

Raid bonuses are also going to release on the 28. When players quickly defeat a raid, they’re going to receive Premier Balls. Trading Pokémon also costs one-fourth less Stardust at the same.

Many of these new features are coming on June 28, at 1 PM PST. The raid bonuses and decreased Stardust for trading cost end on September 2, at 1 PM PDT. Making sure to jump back into Pokémon Go over the celebration weekend to take part in these fantastic new updates.
