The Outer Worlds will be the last game from Obsidian before jumping onto the Microsoft exclusive train, and sure enough, it is one of the most promising games they’ve ever built. In an interview, the development team shared more about how the multiple endings are going to work once it releases on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
Leonard Boyarsky, co-creator of Fallout, told VGC, “you side with Phineas or you side with The Board, then after that, you see that choice coupled with all the other things you decided to do in the game and how that plays out for the colony as a whole.”
Two paths are leading to the game’s main endings, but more details and nuances are going on as players progress through the story with the fate of characters and how locations change.
“At the end of the game there are slides to show how you affected different things,” Boyarsky said. “There are two basic paths at the end: whether you sided with Phineas or The Board. That’s kind of the first beat of the end: how that played out and what that choice was. After that, you get a whole series of slides that talk about the results of your actions and the consequences of the choices you made throughout the whole game. They talk about the different people that you encountered, the different areas that you entered, how you solved certain quests, and what that means for the future of the colony.”
From what we see, the game is giving you the chance to determine every little thing in the story, and this is the core thing that makes it look so exciting.
The Outer Worlds releases on October 25, 2019.
