The new line is due later this month.
The latest in Nvidia’s range of RTX graphics cards have been announced today, following the same naming structure as the current set of cards but with ‘Super’ as their moniker.
Nvidia say that the new range, which will eventually replace the 2070 and 2080 cards with Super variants but will be on sale alongside the 2060, will have about an extra 15 percent increase gains in speed compared to their non-super counterparts, while topping out at about 25% for the top performance ranges depending on the rig it’s being used in. There’s also a 2GB memory increase in the 2060 Super (from 6GB to 8GB), while the 2080 will have improved memory speed.
The prices for the new cards will be the same for the Super versions of the cards, except the 2060. It’s going to be about $50 more. That puts the 2060 Super at $399, the 2070 Super at $499 and 2080 at $699. The first two launch on July 9, while the 2080 Super will follow two weeks later on July 23. Purchases will also include two games as part of their promotion: Remedy Entertainment’s Control, and Wolfenstein: Youngblood from Machine Games and Bethesda.
Despite the Super names though, Nvidia says it shouldn’t change the power structure of their cards. While the 2080 Super will provide a boost over the non-Super version, the 2080TI will still outperform it. The lower range, while powered up, still performs lower than the next tier, so don’t expect to get a 2070 Super and expect it to outperform a standard 2080 without considering overclocking options.
The cards come as the hype surrounding AMD’s highly anticipated Navi line of cards. While the timing of the new cards does seem like a reaction to the Navi range’s impending release, the company says it’s a range that has been in development for some time already.
